workshop schedule
Saturday June 3rd, 2023
Arrive at the Local Nomad Hostel in Paonia, Colorado, any time after 12 noon. If you need a ride to and from either the Montrose or Grand Junction airports or bus station, that can be arranged (both are approximately 1 hour from Paonia). We will be setting up tents and work stations. Welcome cook out on the lawn at the hostel for dinner. Work and instruction will begin Sunday
Sunday June 4th, 2023
The day begins slowly (as all days will) with coffee and breakfast. At 9am we will have a group meeting to discuss the week. Lunch will be provided every day at the house at 12:30. Also in the morning some refinement of our set up will need to take place, and workstations assigned. We will have sewing machines and a cutting table inside. Outside on the lawn will be 2 tents where our saw horses, work tables, and pneumatic staple guns will be set up for upholstery. A glueing station will also be set up outside (under the big tree). We will take our “before photos”, review our tools and supplies, and start deconstructing our chairs (or other small piece). and. constructing our wood frame for our ottoman, including wood corner brackets, t nuts (or alternative) for the legs
In the afternoon we will begin block printing.
4:00pm chai tea break (daily)
Optional work time all evenings, mandatory machine shut off time 9pm (for everyones sanity).
Dinner at the house, like all days, is at 6:30pm.
Monday June 5th, 2023
After breakfast, deconstruction continues. Labeling of all fabric pieces for use in pattern making later, and taking photos of each stage for future reference. Furniture repair begins including sanding, glueing, staining of wood, or reinforcing any other type of base.
Afternoon we will start block printing.
Tuesday June 6th, 2023
Introduction to springs, webbing, and FLW (synthetic burlap) Applying springs to the base of the wood frame, covering with burlap and hand sewing burlap to the springs.

Wednesday June 7th, 2023
Next layer is foam. Introduction to foam. We will be making a foam box to cover our springs. Cutting, glueing, and applying foam. Then Dacron. Learning to cut in corners with Dacron is great practice for cutting your top fabric.
More block printing.
Thursday June 8th, 2023
Cutting and applying fabric, making biscuit tufts and finishing.
More block printing and creating with the block printed fabric such as dish cloths or lamp shades.
Friday June 9th, 2023
Finish applying fabric to furniture, hand sew final pieces, apply welt, or buttons, if using them. Put dust cloth on bottom.

Finish up any loose ends (literally, haha), say goodbye to your new and old friends, pack up and depart!
